Brexit Talks

How to Fill the Gaps In Your Workforce When EU Free Movement Ends

On 31 December 2020, free movement ends for EU workers. For businesses that rely heavily on EU nationals, this will create problems. They will not be able to simply recruit EU workers who are not already in the UK with 'pre-settled' or 'settled' status.

We offer workshops or 'Brexit Talks' for Senior Managers, Business Owners and HR professionals which will cover:

  • What your organisation must do to ensure your existing EU workers are in the UK legally
  • Actions that you can take now to address workforce shortages in the future
  • What the new immigration system for workers will look like after December 2020

Frequently Asked Questions

I have heard there is a Seasonal Workers scheme for food growers - how does this work?

The Seasonal Workers scheme is being piloted at the moment by the government in the 'edible horticulture' sector. We will keep up to date with developments and can certainly talk about this during our presentation.

I think all my EU citizen workers have sorted out their immigration status in the UK already. Why would I need to know anything more?

If you might need to employ workers from overseas - including the EU - in the future, you will want to be prepared. It will not be so simple after December 2020 and you need to know what is in store. You also need to know how to ensure your EU nationals really have sorted out their immigration status.

I often have trouble recruiting from the UK and rely on EU nationals coming to the UK to work - how do I know I will be able to continue to do so in the future?

You will definitely need to think now about what steps you need to take to ensure you don't have gaps in your workforce. Our Brexit talks explain who you will be able to employ in what sort of jobs and what you can do to prepare. You may face problems and you need to build a strategy now.
